Neel privacy policy
Last updated: 26 October 2026
Neel is a private household assistant at home-assist.multicatalyst.ai and in the Neel phone apps. It is run by Multicatalyst, a sole proprietorship in Bengaluru, India ("we", "us"). This policy says what we collect, why, where it is kept, who can see it, and how to delete it.
Neel is invite-only. Right now it is used by our own family and a small group of friends.
The short version
- We read your Gmail and Google Calendar read-only. We never send email, change your calendar or move money.
- We never see your passwords or one-time codes (OTPs). You sign in on Google's or Swiggy's own page.
- We order food or book a table only after you see a preview and tap Yes.
- We don't sell your data. We don't show ads. We don't use your data to train AI models.
- You can disconnect any service, or ask us to delete everything, at any time.
1. What we collect
Your account
- Your name and email address from Google sign-in.
Your household profile
- What you tell Neel during setup and in chat: the people in your home, places (home, office), household staff and their hours, regular orders and preferences.
Your chats with Neel
- What you type or say, and what Neel replies.
- If you use voice, your audio is sent to a speech provider (listed in section 4) to turn it into text, and replies may be turned into speech. We keep the text, not the audio.
From Gmail (read-only, if you connect it)
- Background check. Neel looks at mail from the last 90 days that looks like travel, purchases, deliveries or bills. From those emails it pulls out facts, such as a flight time, a booking reference, a delivery date or a bill amount. We keep those facts, not copies of the emails.
- When you ask a question. Neel searches your Gmail for the emails that answer it, reads them to write the answer, and shows you which emails it used. Those emails are not stored.
- Neel skips login-code and OTP emails and never stores them.
From Google Calendar (read-only, if you connect it)
- Your events (title, time, place and attendees), so Neel can plan around them.
From Swiggy (if you connect it)
- Restaurant, menu, slot and order results while you are asking.
- The orders and table bookings you approve: restaurant, items, total, time, and the order or booking number.
Location (phone apps, if you allow it)
- Where your phone is, used to answer "near me" questions, such as nearby restaurants or travel times.
Login tokens
- When you connect Google or Swiggy, they give us a token: a key that lets us read on your behalf. We store it encrypted. We never receive your password or OTP.
Technical logs
- Times, errors and which feature was used, to keep the service working.
2. Why we use it
We use your data only to run the features you can see in Neel:
- answering questions about your trips, bills, deliveries, money and calendar;
- planning the household day;
- showing food and table options, and placing an order or booking after your Yes;
- keeping your account secure, and fixing problems.
We do not use your data for advertising, for credit decisions, or to build profiles to sell. We do not use it to train AI models.
3. Where it is stored
- Our app and database run on Google Cloud in the Mumbai region (asia-south1), India.
- Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. Login tokens are also encrypted before they are saved.
- Some processing happens outside India. To understand your messages and write replies, we send the needed text to Anthropic, which processes it in the United States. If you use voice with OpenAI's speech service, your audio is processed in the United States. We send only what is needed to answer you.
4. Who can see it
- You. Adults you add to your household see shared household plans, and the trips and bills Neel finds for the household. Your own mail stays private to you.
- Other households can't. Each household's data is kept separate.
- Us. We don't read your data. A person looks at it only if you ask us to for support, if it is needed to investigate a security problem or abuse, or if the law requires it.
- Service providers who process data for us, only to run Neel:
- Google Cloud (hosting and database) and Google Maps Platform (places and travel times);
- Cloudflare (domain and secure connection to the app);
- Anthropic (the AI model that reads your question and the data needed to answer it);
- OpenAI or Sarvam AI (speech to text and text to speech, only if you use voice).
- Swiggy, only when you ask Neel to search, order or book. Swiggy's own privacy policy covers what Swiggy does with it.
- No one else. We don't sell or rent your data. We share it with authorities only when the law requires it.
5. Google user data: Limited Use
Neel's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
In plain words, for data from Gmail and Google Calendar:
- We use it only to provide and improve the features you see in Neel.
- We transfer it only to run those features (for example, to our AI model provider to answer your question), for security, to follow the law, or as part of a merger or sale of the business, with notice to you.
- No person reads it unless you agree, it is needed for security, or the law requires it.
- We never use it for ads, never sell it, and never use it to train AI models.
6. How long we keep it
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Household profile and chats | Until you delete them or close your account |
| Facts found in Gmail | Until you disconnect Gmail or close your account |
| Emails read to answer a question | Not stored |
| Swiggy orders and bookings you approved | Until you close your account |
| Login tokens | Until you disconnect the service, or it expires |
| Technical logs | About 30 days |
7. Your choices and rights
- Disconnect a service. Remove Neel's Google access at myaccount.google.com/permissions, or disconnect Swiggy in Neel. Then ask us, and we delete what came from that service.
- Delete everything. Email us at the address below. We delete your account and your household's data within 30 days, backups included.
- See or correct your data. Ask us, and we'll send you a copy or fix it.
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can ask to access, correct or erase your data, and raise a complaint with us. If we don't resolve it, you can go to the Data Protection Board of India.
8. Children
Neel accounts are for adults (18 and over). A parent may add a child's name and routine to the household profile. We use that only to plan the household day.
9. Security
- Sign-ins happen on the provider's own page.
- Tokens are encrypted at rest.
- Every order or booking needs your Yes on a preview.
- No system is perfect. If we find a breach that affects you, we will tell you, and the authorities as the law requires.
10. Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For big changes, we'll tell you in the app or by email before they apply.
